How does brentabl decide the number of credits it takes to rent a tool?
The number of credits required to rent a given tool is based upon 3 key factors - 1) the cost to purchase the tool, 2) the cost to maintain the tool, and 3) the amount of space required to store the tool. For example, a miter saw and a tiller cost roughly the same amount to purchase. Generally speaking, non-motorized tools will cost the least credits, electric and battery-operated equipment will be in the middle, with large gas-powered equipment taking the highest number of credits as this equipment is expensive to store and maintain.
What if I need more than 1 tool for a job?
We offer job kits for exactly this scenario. Woodworking in particular usually requires several different tools (saws, drills, sanders, etc.), so we attempt to package these together so you have everything you need to get the job done. If you have a job in mind that we don’t have a kit for, reach out to us and we’ll see if we can create a new one. Alternatively, different membership levels allow for more than 1 piece of equipment to be rented at a time.
How do I cancel my membership?
Simply log in to your account and go to the account details page to request to cancel or pause your membership. No phone calls, no postage-paid envelopes, none of the high-pressure crap. It’s literally 2-clicks. We’re certainly sorry to see you go, but we’re not into the whole high-pressure game.
What happens if I cancel/suspend my membership?
You can pause your membership at any time and you will retain all credits you have earned for up to 1 year. After 1 year, you will lose any unused credits. You can cancel your membership at any time, but doing so will cause you to forfeit any unused credits.
Why is there a limit on the number of credits I can accrue?
We limit the number of credits that can be accrued at one time so that we can ensure tool availability for all of our members throughout the year.
When will brentabl communities be available in my area?
As soon as we have a solid base of interest within a close geographic footprint, we will launch a small-scale pilot in that region where we allow those who have expressed interest to subscribe at a discounted rate (though we may not have our full complement of tools available initially). If interest increases, we will launch multiple locations in that area and make our full complement of equipment available.
How are the tools repaired and maintained?
brentabl takes care of all of the required maintenance and upkeep of the equipment. If you discover that a piece of equipment is not functioning properly or appears to be in a state of disrepair, please notify us immediately and do not use the equipment. We will replace it and repair it and refund you the credit used to rent the equipment. While we take care of the regular maintenance, we do expect our communities members to return equipment clean, in working order, and with peripheral devices or parts that were rented. Failure to do so will result in cleaning or restock fees and may result in the suspension of membership privileges.
Are deposits required?
We do require security deposits for certain tools. Deposit amounts vary by the cost/value of the tool and are usually handled by way of placing a hold on the member’s credit card.
What if I move to an area that doesn’t have brentabl Communities?
For starters, think of all the tools you won’t have to pack up and move! You’re already winning. However, in the event that such a terrible travesty happens, we’re here to help. We understand that moving into a new home usually requires a LOT of tools and we want to do everything we can to make sure you have what you need when you need it, no matter where life takes you. So if you’re moving, reach out to us and ask about our “brentabl relocation” program, where we provide you with the tools you need in exchange for helping us bring brentabl Communities to your new community. Sound like a good deal? In addition to you telling all of your new neighbors about this awesome tool subscription service, we’ll support you by running ad campaigns in your area so that we can gain enough traction to launch. And in exchange, we’ll give you a special code that allows you to get referral credits for all the neighbors you bring aboard. Yay, free tools! As if that weren’t enough, we’ll pause your subscription for up to 2 years and allow you to retain your rental credits indefinitely with proof of an address change.
